Benevolent Asylum, Just for Fun (2010)
“In this site-specific, promenade style performance, Wart and Lily Hibberd collaborated to tell stories about institutionalisation in the Australian context. The performance took place on the esplanade of Lavender Bay, which hugs the edges of Luna Park in Sydney. Wart engaged with audience participants by asking them to reenact mental health institution practices and their effects on inmates – walking in single file, shuffling together – while Hibberd’s brief monolgues engaged with the history of the site as the location of a floating institution during colonial times. The project was part of Performance Space’s “Walk” program which took place on land across Sydney.”
