Roger Ballen’s Theatre of the Mind (2016)

“In 2016 I curated an exhibition of the work by Roger Ballen and invited Wart to head up a small group of SCA alumni and students to assist him in constructing an art installation in the underground spaces what was then SCA, and which had previously been the old Rozelle Psychiatric Hospital in Callan Park, Sydney. Commonly referred to as, ‘the dungeons’, together they transformed these already eerie spaces into something truly unsettling and compelling, including recordings of Wart’s improvised dialogue and screams. Wart’s collaboration inspired Ballen to produce the short film, ‘Theatre of the Mind’, set in the installation, which he saw as introducing an important step change in his multimedia practice.”
